• human -> cells -> nucleus -> chromosomes
• chromosome is tightly coiled DNA, DNA is made up of 4 letters, AGTC
• there are about 3 billion base pairs in Human DNA
• structure of DNA was discovered in 1953 by Waton and Crick
• Human genome was decoded, between 1900 to 2003, costs 2.7 billion (1991 dollars)
• price is decreasing rapidly, cheap sequencing will enable precision medicine
